Torn between two novels

I know that National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo) is a long way off; it takes place every November. For those of you unfamiliar with NaNoWriMo, it’s an international challenge in which participants strive to pound out a 50,000-word novel in a month. Sounds crazy, or impossible, or any other synonym you’d like to inject there? Well, that’s why it’s called a challenge. And I’m going to partake in this insanity this year!

I know that November is four months away, but it’s okay to plan ahead according to the NaNoWriMo website (www.nanowrimo.org), as long as no rough draft is written before November 1. Since I signed up at www.nanowrimo.org last May, I’ve been outlining and researching for a satirical fantasy/horror tale about political life in a small town. I’ve covered politics for three years for a newspaper, so I can vouch for witnessing real life horror stories LOL.

But recently, I’ve found myself trying to decide between what novel I should write. The other novel I’m interested in penning would also be a satire, based on my adolescent years. If I were to do this, I’d refer to a stack of journals I’ve kept from long ago (and still well preserved LOL).

I know I can write either novel in a month because I’ve had life experience regarding both, and racked up research material for hammering out a 50,000 word first draft in a month. Besides, it’s the quantity – not quality – of words that count (also according to the NaNoWriMo website). But like I said, whichever novel plot I should go with … well, I still have four months to decide on that.
