Last Saturday in Syracuse, my boyfriend, his friend that we were visiting, my daughter and I went to a bookstore called Books and Memories LLC. I told my boyfriend’s friend that the bookstore was “overwhelming.” He said, “I told you it was a serious bookstore.” It has two levels, but I never got the chance to see the downstairs level because I spent the whole time checking out the upstairs. They sell used books, which was what I like because they were cheaper and it was the green way to go (buying recycled books!). It was a long hunt, but in the end I purchased the following: Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber by Adele Lang, Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, and The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin. I also got two books for free, not because I purchased something but just because the store was giving them away: The Jack the Ripper Walking Tour Murder by Albert Borowitz and The Oxford Book of Satirical Verse compiled by Geoffrey Grigson. It took me two days to read The Stepford Wives while vacationing in Syracuse. It was that good (although it’s a short novel).
