Patricia Morrison, widow of late rock legend Jim Morrison, was a key player in the 60s rock and roll music scene. As one of the nation’s first female rock critics, she was there, she saw it all, and I bet she reported it all. Now she displays her vast knowledge of this world when she fuses mystery and pop culture into the first of her “Rock and Roll Murders” books, “Ungrateful Dead: Murder at the Fillmore.” It’s a great read, with words that really paint a picture of this world in the reader’s head. The protagonist, Rennie Stride, not only is struggling with solving the mystery of a popular (yet unlikable) band frontman while struggling to get her foot in the door of the music journalism world and her newlywed status to perhaps the wrong guy. I recommend it.
