I apologize for posting this a day after my birthday (Aug. 27). However belated this post is, I’m filled with birthday blessings.

To everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday on Facebook and in person: Thank you!

Honestly, I didn’t do anything special. In the daytime, I worked on my articles; at nighttime, I went out to dinner with my family. Specifically, we went to a Perkins Restaurant because I wanted so much to try their Chocolate French Silk Pie. It’s nice if I had gone on a weekend getaway for my special day (lol). Nevertheless, it’s the simple things about life I’m grateful for.

In the many years I’ve been living on this earth, I experienced a lot, felt a lot, loved a lot and lost a lot.

My life has brought me ups and downs, tossed me around left and right, and in some aspects brought me back full circle (like marrying my college boyfriend earlier this year). I’m happy for all the blessings that came about from the “curses.”

I am blessed for my family, my husband, my daughter, my passion for writing, and everything else in between.

I’m grateful that every morning, I’m able to wake up. I’m able to wake up and physically get out of bed.

In the many years I celebrate my birthday, I hope that I will celebrate more.

It’s the simple things about my life I appreciate. Like seeing the beauty of the sunlight drenching the top of the palm trees outside my apartment window. Or how my daughter surprises me with yet another beautiful manga drawing she created (they are of professional quality; call me biased because I’m her mother, but they are). Or even the last $5 I have that would let me afford a nice cup of coffee. Little things like that.

I’m happy for the shelf full of books I relish in, like “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte, a collection of Dorothy Parker works and “The Twilight Zone Companion” by Marc Scott Zicree. By the way, I’m a “Twilight Zone” fan.

Not only am I blessed for the terrific people I met and have a relationship with, but also for opportunities to meet people every day, whether it’s in church, at networking events or even out and about. While at a library the day before my birthday, I met a pleasant woman with whom I had a decent conversation. I never met her before; she just sat down at the table where I was working.

I’m grateful for my birthday blessings. But more than that, I’m grateful for every day I’m here on earth.
